About Us

Executive Summary

 The Berean Community Development Corporation (BCDC) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based at 104 Angeli Drive, Hammond, LA 70401. Serving the residents of Tangipahoa Parish, BCDC is dedicated to implementing comprehensive intervention and prevention programs that deliver essential resources, support, and opportunities across all age groups. Building on established community trust, the 2026–2027 operational plan scales six flagship initiatives designed to combat food insecurity, promote physical and mental wellness, engage youth during out-of-school hours, drive economic opportunity, and celebrate local leaders.

To strengthen and uplift the Tangipahoa Parish community by providing essential resources, holistic wellness support, and life-enriching opportunities for all residents, from youth to senior citizens.

Vision Statement

A resilient, thriving Tangipahoa Parish where every resident has equitable access to nutritious food, lifelong health education, meaningful employment, safe youth development opportunities, and a clean, vibrant physical environment.

Community Need / Market Analysis

 

Tangipahoa Parish faces socio-economic challenges that require targeted, neighborhood-based intervention:

  • Food Insecurity: A significant portion of families in Hammond experience food insufficiency, creating an immediate need for consistent, barrier-free nutritional relief.
  • Senior Health Disparities: Older adults often face social isolation, sedentary lifestyles, and chronic disease management issues without accessible preventive education.
  • Out-of-School Youth Supervision: During summer months, youth experience unstructured idle time, increasing risk factors and reducing access to safe recreational and cultural development.
  • Workforce Development Gaps: Local job seekers frequently lack access to resume building, professional attire, headshots, and direct engagement with hiring employers.
  • Environmental & Civic Engagement: Limited public green space initiatives and a need for positive community role models to inspire civic involvement.

Programs and Services

 

BCDC structures its 2026–2027 operations around six core programs tailored to specific community needs:


1. Senior Citizen Health and Wellness Expo

  • Goal: Educate senior citizens via targeted health information and physical engagement to improve quality of life.
  • Objectives:
  • Partner with healthcare providers and community stakeholders to deliver health screenings and educational sessions.
  • Host a daylong interactive expo featuring line dancing, catered healthy meals, and expert guest speakers.

2. Summer Youth Experience

  • Goal: Constructively engage youth during out-of-school summer hours through structured recreation.
  • Objectives:
  • Execute a month-long interactive summer experience integrating recreational, STEM, and cultural activities.
  • Host recurring weekend community movie nights utilizing a large outdoor inflatable screen to foster family bonding.

3. Sunday Feeding Community Program

  • Goal: Direct alleviation of local food insecurity.
  • Objective: Provide a hot, complimentary meal every Sunday to any community member visiting the center.

4. Environmental Flower Planting

  • Goal: Foster environmental stewardship and neighborhood beautification.
  • Objective: Mobilize volunteers to plant donated flower seeds and greenery throughout public spaces in Tangipahoa Parish while delivering basic conservation education.

5. Community Hero Wall of Fame

  • Goal: Celebrate local leaders and strengthen community pride.
  • Objectives:
  • Identify local heroes making positive impacts and feature their bios and photographs across BCDC social media platforms.
  • Collaborate with the local State Representative to present official legislative proclamations to recognized heroes.

6. Community Career Fair

  • Goal: Increase employment opportunities and professional readiness.
  • Objective: Connect job seekers with regional employers, offer workshops on resume writing and professional attire, and provide complimentary professional headshots.

Marketing and Outreach

 Led by the Director of Communication, outreach strategies utilize localized media channels to ensure accessibility across demographics:


  • Digital & Social Media Portals: Daily content publishing, highlighting "Community Heroes," event announcements, and interactive program sign-ups.


  • Grassroots Community Outreach: Distribution of physical flyers at local churches, schools, senior centers, and local businesses in Hammond.


  • Government & Legislative Partnerships: Collaboration with Louisiana State Representatives and municipal agencies to co-sponsor events and issue official recognitions.


  • Public Relations: Press releases to local newspapers and broadcast outlets for major events (Expo, Career Fair, Summer Youth launch).
